Weeks

Last week Amma and Appa did some ordering. First, Amma went on Wayfair and ordered new hall and dining room rugs. I helped. She also ordered a new Christmas tree, and a few Rachel Ray Cusina cooking sets. Next Appa ordered a Roomba 675 and SBAC math, science, and ELA,]. AND... A new iMac which I'm typing on now! The iMac is really cool, you can do so many things on it. And the Christmas tree is now all decorated. N is terrified of the Roomba. The rugs look great, SBAC hasn't been broken into, and Amma's cooking is getting even better with the RRC (Rachel Ray Cusina) sets. the Holiday boutique is coming up and AH are coming. We are going to have so much fun. We just came back from Great Wolf lodge too! All in all, its been fun these last few weeks!!

Blink Summary

In the episode Blink, from Doctor Who Season 3, the main character Sally Sparrow, goes to an abandoned old house, and finds a message for her from The Doctor saying she should duck. The message was dated in 1969. She ducks, and something flies at her head. The person who threw it was a stone statue of an angel. (or so you would think)

She comes back the next day with her friend Lisa, and then the doorbell rings. The person is Lisa’s grandson. Lisa goes missing right then. How!? Her grandson gives Sally a letter which says that Lisa went back in time. What?!

Sally goes to Lisa’s brother, Keith’s video store and finds a TV with a DVD in it running a video where the Doctor is saying supposedly random things. Again, it may sound random only if you don't know whats going on, and we viewers still don't know .

She goes to the police, and a man (Billy Shipton) takes her down to see cars abandoned at the old house from the first scene and… there is the TARDIS! And everywhere Sally goes, there are angel statues. One minute, you see them, if you look away, or blink, even for a second, they move closer to attack you. As they are talking Billy goes missing, and shows up 5 minutes later as an old man, about to die, when the rain stops.

Sally is determined to find out what is happening, and takes Keith with her. He brings a TV, I-Pad, and a notebook and pen. While they watch The Doctor on TV, they figure out that somehow, The Doctor went into the future, got a transcript of what he and Sally are saying, and is using that to talk back to her. He warns them about the statues and says don’t blink. Or you’re DEAD.

Then, an angel, 2, 3 show up. Sally leaves Keith to go explore if there are more, and Keith tries his best to not blink, then runs to the basement. They find the TARDIS, and go inside, but the angels find them, and try to force them to come out. And at that point the TARDIS de-materializes around them and leaves them surrounded by four attacking angels!

They look up and slowly realize what the Doctor has done - Now all the angels are looking at each other and in a deadlock to not blink or look around. The Angels were looking at each other, which turns all of them to stone, because they were being looked at! Because even a stone angel would get killed (or its equivalent for a stone) when another angel looks at them when they aren't looking.

As Sally and Keith realize they are safe, they slowly inch away from the spot and go on about their life.

A year later, the Doctor and Martha Jones (his companion) pass the store with archery equipment; busy running on a different mission. Sally talks a little, then the Doctor leaves. They don't recognize Sally and that's when Sally realizes that she has to publish the transcript and the video "easter eggs" where the Doctor says random things.

That is how the Doctor gets all the stuff to use in his future or in their past.

That episode was very scary to watch. You never knew what was going to happen. And it all makes sense only at the end or second time viewing.

Go Green!

Do you listen to what Trump says about climate change? Well, if you do, don't. This essay will (I hope) convince you to go green and worry about the fate of our Earth.

Why should we go green? You may ask. Because the fate of the place you live in depends on it. The earth will be around forever. Why should we stress about it? Because it won't be. It'll be gone soon if this continues.
Climate change is bad for animals. One way this is true is that Google said: "In 2024, the Arctic will have an ice-less summer." Do you know how bad that is? Polar bears and other creatures that live in the Arctic are used to FREEZING cold temperatures. In the heat of no ice, some animals might literally burn or melt!!! This is because those animals have a thick layer of fur covering their outer bodies, and animals like whales and walruses have a layer of fat called blubber to keep them extra warm. Also, some animals use snow as a hiding area, by digging a hole and hiding in it. Without the snow, there would be nowhere to hide. Actually, without the snow, there might not even BE an Arctic!
Another way that climate change is bad for animals is that it's destroying their habitats. This is happening for two reasons. One is because the Amazon Rainforest is burning up. The Amazon Rainforest is great for many reasons. One is it gives off a lot of oxygen because there are so many trees. Two is because it's a great ecosystem for animals to live. There are many different types of animals that live in the Amazon Rainforest and River. if it burns up, there is no place for the animals of the area to go! The people of Brazil want to do something but their leader won't let them. The G7 tried to give Brazil 2 million dollars to help, but the leader said no. "Why are they trying to give Brazil money? I know how to govern my own country!" If the entire Amazon Rainforest burns up, That would be absolutely HORRIBLE!!
But climate change doesn't just affect animals, it affects humans as well. One way this is true is because one aspect of climate change is global warming. It gets hotter in some places and cooler in others. Pollution is one way that global warming happens. But this pollution is REALLY bad for everyone. For the living organisms that breathe oxygen, the air is getting polluted. Actually, making 1 or half a pound of beef is equivalent to driving 55 cars for one mile!!! So humans need to become vegetarians. And all this gunk isn't just happening in the air. It's going into the sea! There is a floating island of trash the size of Texas! And it's still growing! Whenever your trash goes into landfills, most of it goes into the sea. So humans need to start RECYCLING a lot more. Even if just one person does these things, it can make a huge difference. Thanks for reading.

Ear piercing

“S, wake up. You have to get up.” My dad gently shook me awake. “Ugh.” I muttered. “Fine.” I got out of bed and waddled to the apartment on the other side of the building, where my dad’s parents lived. “Good morning.” my mom said. “Hi.” I replied. I went to the bedroom, grabbed my toothbrush and went back to the previous apartment, where my dad’s aunt (his mom’s sister) lived. I went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. When I was done brushing, I took a bath. After, I wrapped a towel around my body and went to the other house. There was a pretty big line waiting for the bathroom. I dried my body and dressed up in new clothes for the party.
“Hello everybody!” I exclaimed.
“Hi!” my mom said.
“You look great!” “Thank you. Can I have some Boost?” (Boost is chocolate based powder you mix in hot milk.)
“Sure.” Both my dad’s parents and my mom’s parents were there. After breakfast, we waited for my dad brother to show up, because he would take us to the party hall. When he came, we all went downstairs and assembled in his Honda car. Me, my mom, my sister and grandma (mom’s side) drove for a minute and then we were at the party hall.
“Wow!” The place was filled with balloons! When we got out of the car, everyone started taking pictures of us! My parents had hired a professional photographer, and he was a friend. His name was Ranjan. Then my dad and my mom’s dad started taking pics of us too! Mostly they were focusing on N, but after we got together, my family had our own photoshoot! First, they did family shots. Then my sister and my parents, and then me and my dad, and then just me. For my sister, my mom and dad held her hand and tried to make her walk. She didn’t want to though. I had to make noises from behind Ranjan to make her come. When it was my turn, they had me do so many different poses! But it was fun. Then for me and my dad, they only took one shot. Then FINALLY, we went in! The party hall was actually a marriage hall, but not like an American wedding. There was a medium size stage in the front of the hall, and then to the side, there were 2 rooms with beds in each and a big closet for storage. And right in front of the entrance, there was a small table. On the table, there was a shaker filled with water with small holes on top, and a huge plate filled with sugar, rock candy, and chocolate and caramel candies.
“S, I have a job for you.” My dad said.
“Sure, what is it?” I asked.
“You can sit at this table and welcome anyone who comes and offer them sweets.” He said.
“No! That’ll be so boring! I’ll have nothing to do!” I replied. “When more people come, you can leave. Here take Amma’s (Mom’s) phone. Take pictures.” He said. Then he walked away. After 5 to 10 minutes, my grandpa came over.
“Hi. Come eat.” he said.
“I’m not hungry.” I said.
“You’re never hungry.” he said. “Come on.”
“Okay.” I said, boredly.
Then my mom and dad came to eat as well. We went upstairs and found a lot of tables. In South India, people eat on banana leaves, not plates normally. So we sat down and ate. My mom had a hard time, because my sister wanted to eat everything, including the banana leaf on which her breakfast was served. While we were eating, my mom’s dad’s brother came. He sat down to eat with us. After he held my sister. Then we went back downstairs for another photoshoot, this time with my cousin, for some reason. Then FINALLY, the function started. My mom and dad sat on the stage, with 3-4 swami-jis. They help with the function process, kind of like priests in American ceremonies. I talked with a million people, then my dad’s dad grabbed my hand. “Let go!” I exclaimed. “I want you to meet someone.” he said. “Okay.” I replied. We walked over to someone. “Hi.” I said. “Hello.” they replied. We shook hands. Then I scampered. I went up to the stage, were my mom was holding a dress that we bought at Pothy’s, a HUGE store for Indian dresses. It would be the size of a mall, with 6 floors! She told me, “Change into this dress and then come out.” “Okay. I changed and came out. “Wow! It looks very nice!” “Thank you!” Then, the really important thing happened. The swami-jis called my family to the stage. Then they sat my sister in my grandfather’s lap. The earpiercer came and made a dot on N's ear. Then, as me and my dad were biting our nails in tension, and so was everyone else, the earpiercer took his machine thingy and… “CA-CHUNK!” My sister cried so hard, the whole room could hear without a microphone. They attached the earrings in both ears, and “Tada!
She looked SO cute! After that, everyone gave us gifts, cards and presents. I remember my mom’s cousin gave us a really cool musical instrument from Bali, along with a magnet and hair ties. When the last gift was given, some people brought out… A cake! It was shaped like a star (my idea!) and it was black forest flavor. It was star shaped to signify my sister - N means star in Tamil, my mother tongue. I had a tiny bit and then I helped give it out to everyone else. Then we actually ate lunch. I had rasam sadham and sambar sadham with banana chips and potatoes. Once I was done eating, I noticed a crowd over at a table. There was vanilla ice cream! I took one after asking my mom and then ate my grandpa’s since he didn’t want his.

That was the end of the show!

Everyone left.  My mom’s cousin, the one who gave us gifts from Bali played with N and the photographers took LOT more pictures. After it was just my family and my mom’s parents and Ranjan, everyone started to clean up. I was sent to watch my sleeping sister and I fell asleep! When I woke up, we went home and looked at all the gifts. It was an end to a few hours of fun. In total we had collected almost 5000 rupees in gifts and cards. Rupees is Indian currency just like dollar is for America.
I hope next time when I visit India we have a party like this! Even bigger.
